Working on six days rest, Adam Wainwright (7-2) was brilliant last night only allowing a Paul Goldschmidt double with two down in the 4th as he and the Cardinals totally dominated Arizona, 5-0. Wainwright walked no one and matched his season best with nine strikeouts.

Wainwright kept lefties wondering where the next pitch would be located while he powered the outer part of the zone against righties.

Quality and Ultra Quality Starts

  • A Quality Start is a game in which a starting pitcher pitches six or more innings and allows three earned runs or fewer.
  • An Ultra Quality Start is a game in which a starting pitcher pitches seven or more innings and allows two earned runs or fewer.

Wainwright picked up both a QS and and a UQS last night and now has thrown eight quality starts and seven ultra quality starts out of 10 of his overall starts.

Quality or Ultra Quality Starts the last two days

There were 40 starts by pitchers the last two days, 16 were either a Q or a U, nine were Quality Starts, seven were Ultra Quality Starts, none of the starts resulted in a loss for the pitcher
