For all of the disappointment of this season for the Washington Nationals, ever-energetic GM Mike Rizzo points out “we’re still the third youngest team in baseball, we’ve got about seven big power arms on the verge of hitting the big leagues—not to mention Taylor Jordan, who gets it up to the mid-90’s and can really pitch—and we’re in position to contend the next five years.”
Rizzo also says that he doesn’t plan to move Ryan Zimmerman off third despite some throwing issues. “He’s got great hands, he is always prepared and his arm strength is getting better,” says Rizzo.
As for the replacement for Davey Johnson, who is retiring at the end of the season, Rizzo says “we’ll address that when the time is right. We aren’t giving up on this season.”
Here’s my suggestion: Brad Ausmus.
