The Buck Showalter-Joe Girardi shouting match at Camden Yards Monday night was a simple matter of pennant race tensions. According to Showalter, Girardi hollered at Oriole third base coach Bobby Dickerson about stealing signs, Showalter said “I’m not allowing someone in an Oriole uniform to have to take that” and had words which got emotional.
With all the injuries and the tensions raised by the Alex Rodriguez situation as well as the loss of three games to the Red Sox over the weekend, Girardi is under enormous pressure. Showalter has been a master of creating a chip on his players’ shoulders about being the step-children of the Yankees and Red Sox.
It was not unexpected.
